2020 was not the best years for traveling (not that it was the best year for anything) and, I think we all just can’t wait for it to finish.
Even though we cannot expect magic to happen immediately after the 2021 starts, I believe we all secretly hope it will happen and the life will go back to as it was before.
After spending almost entire year at home (literally) we are fantasizing about being able to freely travel again.
We already have some destinations in our minds waiting for the first possible opportunity to make it happen.
If some of you are like us, anxious to pack your bags and fly away somewhere real nice where you could relax and refresh your body and mind, we have a place to recommend.
Indonesia is one of our favorite countries where we saw some of the most incredible places and we are dreaming about going back.
In this text, we will share our photos from our 1 month long trip through Indonesia from 2018, and, who knows, maybe it will inspire some of you to make it your next travel destination.
Here is just a part of what this amazing country of more than seventeen thousand islands has to offer:
BALI – beaches, spa & massages, outdoors…
In Bali you can enjoy doing so many different things – from relaxing on it’s paradisiac beaches to trekking tours to some of the active volcanoes, tropical forests, national parks, surfing, diving and snorkeling…
You can have the most relaxing vacation in some of the gorgeous beach towns such as Nusa Dua, Seminyak or Kuta. These beach towns are known by 5 stars resorts, amazing (but cheap) spa treatments and long, beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters.
Spa and massage centers around Nusa Dusa, Kuta and Seminyak are highly popular and way much cheaper than in Europe so you can enjoy all kinds of beauty and relaxation treatments at low cost.
UBUD – rice terraces, monkeys, jungle villas…
If you like outdoors & adventure, you want to go to Ubud – one of the most visited Balinese towns.
Ubud is known by the unique type of accommodation that they offer there – you can stay in some of the amazing tropical forest’s villas where you will normally have your own private cottage with a swimming pool in the middle of the jungle.
Your closest neighbors might be monkeys.
In Ubud you can visit the legendary Monkey Forest – natural habitat of the Balinese long-tailed Monkey.
Some of the gorgeous rice terraces are located within a short distance from Ubud.
INDONESIAN FOLKLORE
Traditional folklore dance doesn’t sound like too much fun until you see the Indonesian one. It’s a real spectacle.
TEMPLES
And yes, Indonesian temples – you can hardly find anything similar and that beautiful anywhere else.
VOLCANOES
Indonesia is the country that have the most active volcanoes in the world – more than 70 active ones.
If you feel adventurous you can have the most amazing experience and do a trekking tour to an active volcano (sounds unsafe but it’s actually pretty safe).
Sunrise trekking tour to Mt.Batur is something you really want to add to your bucket list.
Night trekking on an active volcano and watching the sunrise from the top of it is priceless.
FLORES, KOMODO & RINCA ISLANDS – dragons, manta rays, flying foxes…
More of the outdoors activities, underwater national park (Manta Rays & Giant Turtles) and Dragons – all this you can find in these incredible islands.
In Flores island you can explore beautiful local villages where you can see:
- spider-web shaped rice field in Tado village
Tado Village, Flores
- waterfalls, caves and cave lakes where you can swim
From Flores you can take a few days’ boat trip to the surrounding islands (Komodo, Rinca, Padar).
Exploring the small and remote islands on the way, you will discover unbelievable places and creatures.
In Komodo and Rinca islands you can see the biggest living lizard in the world called Komodo Dragon.
You can snorkel with Manta Rays and Giant Turtles (and many other sea creatures) in underwater national park.
RELAX AT GILI ISLANDS
If you want to relax in a real unspoiled paradise so remote that the horse carriage is the only transportation, Gili Islands are the best place.
There are 3 Gili islands – Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno – all tree of them are very close to each other and so tiny that you can walk the whole islands in about few hours of time.
Gili Trawangan is the biggest and the busiest of the Gili islands – here you can enjoy crystal clear waters, sea-swings, take a bicycle ride around the island, watch the most incredible sunsets at the Sunset beach and yes, relax.
On Gili Air you can do pretty much the same – paradisiac and even more unspoiled beaches + there are some great snorkeling spots.
Gili Meno is the smallest of the islands and it’s famous by the underwater sculptures that you can see snorkeling.
Also, you can see a diverse sea life including sea turtles and all kind of fish and corals.

These are just some of our favorite places around Indonesia that we recommend visiting to anyone.
Still, there are many Indonesian islands that we haven’t visited yet but it’s on our list and we will definitely go back for more.
Indonesia cannot possibly be described in these 25 photos but, we hope it’s enough to inspire you and make you start planning your next trip.
New year is behind the corner and it’s time to make plans (including travel plans) – you can always leave the difficult planning for later so, why don’t start with planning your next big trip to Indonesia?
